WE NEED YOUR HELP TO BRING POSITIVE ROLE MODELS
TO MEDIA ATTENTION FOR OUR DAUGHTERS’ SAKE!!!
HELP US MAKE A DOCUMENTARY ABOUT WOMEN AND LEADERSHIP
It is increasingly clear that young women today have few role models from whom they can gain inspiration as they approach adulthood. To think that Britney Spears or Paris Hilton will be the standard by which our daughters measure themselves is far from reassuring to any parent who envisions a successful future for their daughter. There is an almost urgent need for today’s teens to be exposed to positive, empowering programs that will support them in living up to their full potential.
What does it take to be a leader? What are the skills needed to empower women to excel, to compete in the workplace, to negotiate their way through life and to find their calling? How do the criteria for women seeking leadership roles differ from those for men?
We are working on a documentary film entitled Taking the Lead that will answer these questions and more as we highlight the trials and achievements of today’s female leaders and journey with others through political campaigns and personal hurdles to become accomplished leaders in their own right. Produced under the supervision of documentary filmmaker, Suzie Galler, the 90 minute program will be shot on digital video with a professional crew and a student organizing committee who will support the program with research, production, and interviewing tasks.
The purpose of the film is three fold:
To create an educational tool for women and girls who need to be able to see themselves as leaders, offering inspiration and information about leadership skills, ultimately encouraging them to take the leap to take the lead;
To serve as a positive media tool that will offer a dramatic shift in the current image of women that is playing out in the media as frivolous with unattainable standards of beauty;
To add momentum to the growing movement in women’s leadership—providing a springboard to help launch up and coming leaders by bringing them, their work and ideals to the public eye and to de-stigmatize the still foreign notion in this country that women can and should serve as world leaders.
